Before I send any important message I read it out loud.

Emails. DMs. Sales pitches. Everything.

Your brain lies to you when you write.

It fills in gaps. Skips over awkward phrasing. Forgives unclear sentences.

Because you know what you meant to say.

But the reader doesn't.

They only see the words. Not your intention.

So I started reading everything out loud before sending.

And holy shit, the difference.

Sentences that looked fine on screen sound clunky out loud.

Points that seemed clear are actually confusing.

Calls to action that felt strong are actually weak.

You catch it all when you hear it.

Written: "I'd love to explore potential collaboration opportunities."

Read out loud: "What the hell does that even mean?"

Rewrite: "Want to work together on this?"

See the difference?

One sounds like a LinkedIn robot.

One sounds like a human.

And humans respond to humans.

This one change made my:

  • Cold outreach response rate go from 8% to 23%

  • Sales close rate go from 15% to 31%

  • Content engagement go up 3x

Not because I got better at writing.

Because I started sounding like an actual person.

So try it.

Read your next email out loud before sending.

If it sounds weird, it is weird.

Rewrite until it sounds like you talking.
